Hong Kong Official Currency Reserve Assets at $441.5 Billion in January 2018

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (Wednesday) that the official foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong amounted to US$441.5 billion as at the end of January 2018 (end-December 2017: US$431.4 billion).


Including unsettled foreign exchange contracts, the foreign currency reserve assets of Hong Kong at the end of January 2018 amounted to US$433.0 billion (end-December 2017: US$422.8 billion).

The total foreign currency reserve assets of US$441.5 billion represent over seven times the currency in circulation or about 49% of Hong Kong dollar M3.
